Indonesia International Tourist Arrivals January – May 2012 grew 8.81 percent


The number of international tourists visiting Indonesia in the first five months of 2012 has grown by 8.81% reaching 3.18 million, up from 2.92 million during the same period last year, said Head of the Central Bureau for Statistics, Suryamin. 
Among entry points, Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara airport registered highest growth, up 26.53%, followed by Polonia Airport in Medan, up 13.87% , while visitors through Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta  international airport increased by 10.44%, reported Antara.
Whereas, foreign visitors during the month of May alone reached 650,883, or an 8.45% improvement compared to May 2011.
In May, highest arrivals were recorded at Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport that welcomed 220,508 foreign tourists, followed by Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport with 185,932 visitors, but fewer visitors came to Batam at 94,117 persons, down from 96,206 in May the previous year.
In 2012  Indonesia aims to receive 8 million tourists, a growth of 4.56% compared to the 7.64 million  international arrivals in 2011.
