From the Farnborough International Airhshow in London, Kompas daily reported that Skytrax, Britain-based commercial airline services reviewer, has named Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia: The World Best Regional Airline, over nominations from Europe, South America and others.
In addition, Garuda Indonesia also won the Best Regional Airline in Asia award. The Awards were handed on Thursday, 12 July, by Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted which was personally received by Garuda’s CEO Emirsyah Satar. In response, Emirsyah said that the recognition was due to the hard work by everyone involved, and that Garuda will continue to improve and give its best services to its passengers in its Quantum Leap policy
The Award was based on a global survey on 18 million passengers from 100 different nationalities involving 200 airlines.
Emirsyah added that until 2015 the airline expects to expand its fleet with another 102 aircrafts to reach a total of 194 planes. Garuda further plans to operate flights to Europe’s Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome and Milan when conditions are conducive.
Today in Europe, Garuda flies only to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, flying four times weekly from Jakarta.
Earlier at Farnborough, Garuda Indonesia signed an agreement with Rolls-Royce for the maintenance of its Airbus aircraft engines.
