This year, the annual international Kuta Karnival returns to the shores of Bali’s most celebrated Kuta Beach for its 10th edition, from 10 to 14 October 2012, carrying the theme: “The Prosperity World”.

Held regularly every year since 2003, the annual Kuta Karnival has managed to siphon the attention of the world. As in previous years, the event will be decorated with colorful activities ranging from the Fabulous Opening Ceremony, a Sunset Culture Parade, Turtle Release, Paddle for Peace, Balinese Cultural Show, Kite Festival, Beach Sports Competitions, Surfing Contests, Food Festival, Music Fiesta , and a whole range of other exciting features, in line with its annual tagline “A Celebration of Life”.

The festival will commence with an opening ceremony in front of Pura Segara on Wednesday, 10 October 2012 at 15.30 Central Indonesia Time, which is scheduled to be attended by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mari Elka Pangestu. The opening ceremony will also be highlighted with the performance of a mass Balinese traditional Legongdance, the iconic Ogoh-ogoh giant puppets procession, and other Balinese traditional attractions involving thousands of performers.

Following the opening ceremony, spectators will be invited to participate in the Turtle Release program on the shores of Kuta Beach as a symbol of conservation and preserving the harmony of nature. As a commemoration and a tribute to the victims of the Bali Bombing tragedy, surfer communities around the island will conduct the Paddle for Peace movement. Caryiing flowers, surfers will paddle to the sea and form what is known as “the circle of peace” where they will subsequently drop the flowers.

The Food Festival has always been one of the main highlights of the festival; with more vendors participating, this year the enthusiasm can only get larger. With a beautiful beach atmosphere and scheduled to open every day before sunset until midnight, the festival promises even more festive nuances. Thousands of visitors will be pampered with a variety of cuisines and beverages at affordable prices originating from various countries and served by the many restaurants, hotels, pubs and night clubs along Kuta.

Aside from staging Surfing contests and other beach sports competitions, this year the festival will for the first time also stage the Kuta Karnival Beach Cricket Tournament. The Bali Sports Foundation Cricket Academy, with the support of Cafe Sardinia, will be organising the competition to consist of 3 sections: SMP (Junior High Schools), SMA (Senior High Schools) and a Sports Bar Showdown.

The Kuta Karnival is a “Community” and “Recovery” initiative of the Kuta Small Business Association (KSBA) for the island of Bali. The Kuta Karnival is officially endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Provincial Government of Bali, Bali Tourism Board (BTB), and the Regency Government of Badung.
